Warsaw, Cityscape

Warsaw, Poland's capital, is a city in transition. There are some pre-war buildings left, which are quickly replaced by modern buildings. High-rises are being put up everywhere. One of Warsaw’s landmarks is the Palace of Culture and Science, built in Social Realist style. It is in contrast with the architecture of its surrounding buildings, which are from the late 20th and early 21st century. Notwithstanding this redevelopment activity, in many of Warsaw’s quiet backyards a shrine with a sculpture of St. Mary can be found.
