The Polish Baltic Coast, Landscape

Characteristic for the Polish Baltic coast’s landscape are wide, sandy beaches with an often wooded, steep coast. On the dunes pines and other kinds of trees are growing. In winter, the beach is no longer teeming with people, it may be covered with snow.

Close to Łeba (Leba) is the Słowiński National Park, which contains several kilometres of coastline. The largest dune is the Lontzke dune. It is between 30 and 50 metres high (the figures vary) and moves several metres eastwards per year. On its way east it buries part of the forest close to the beach and later it releases the landscape with its dead vegetation again.
